If you live on the South Coast, Adelaide Hills or Riverland, and you love great music, you’re probably already very familiar with our next sponsor. Radio 5MU has been broadcasting in our region for an incredible 90 years, and we’re delighted that they’re a part of this year’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival!
Do you remember when 5MU used to broadcast from Victor Harbor? They first started in Victoria Street back in 1982 – you might recall hearing Mark Taylor hosting Breakfast at that time, from the old Weeks and Macklin real estate building.
He wasn’t the only Victor Harbor broadcaster, either – other familiar voices include Keith McCarten and Glenn Gale, as well as Ian Wright (now at local community broadcaster Happy FM), who would broadcast Afternoons from one of the shops at the front of Victa Cinema!
5MU has generously sponsored our main stage on Warland Reserve, where you’ll be able to catch live music from All Shook Up, Jump ‘n’ Jive, Coupe DeVille and The Lincolns, as well as a dance display from the team at Next Step Dance Studios (Saturday 12:30pm), Fashion on the Fleurieu (Sunday 12:30pm) and all the winners from Shannon’s Show ‘N’ Shine and the Historic Motor Vehicles Club raffle!
…if you missed Fairy Pig‘s Jessica and Kingsley chatting with Adam and Jennie about this year’s festival way back in March, you can listen in here. (If you want to hear more Rock ‘N’ Roll on 5MU, you’ll have to stay tuned to 97.1 on the South Coast, 94.3 in the Adelaide Hills, or 96.3 in the Riverland – we’ve got some fun stuff in store!)
Meanwhile, the broadcast team are celebrating their big birthday milestone by collecting people’s memories, recollections and stories about the station – you can share yours at the 90 Years Together website. Who knows – maybe in a few years’ time, they look back on highlights of 100 years of fantastic radio, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival might be on that list!
